Five Blissful Ways to Grow Your Mindset for Intentional Living

Five Blissful Ways to Grow Your Mindset for Intentional Living

Well, HELLO BEAUTIFUL! Yep, it’s THAT time of year when we all make resolutions to change our lives for the better, right? But if you’re anything like me, you might find yourself struggling to keep those resolutions past January. That’s because changing your life when we should still be enjoying winter is one bitch of a task! But what if there was an easier way? A way that didn’t involve hours of willpower and struggle? My dear, there is! All you need is a growth mindset. I’ll share five blissful ways to grow your mindset for intentional living in this post. Let’s get to it!

Shift Your Mindset and Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

“You are you, that’s all. There is no one else in the world exactly like you.” (Dr. Seuss)

With that said, embrace who you are as you learn more about what you love. And think about how to fit that into your life. Don’t concern yourself with Felicia, who you think is better at what you love doing. Catching an unhealthy dose of comparisonitis can make you shrivel up quickly and keep you from sharing your unique gifts with the rest of us.

Don’t think I haven’t been there before. I have. With over 570 million internet blogs and food bloggers running into the seven digits, I’ve struggled with the thought of being buried underneath them all. I worked through that by recognizing that sharing my content is MY approach and no one else’s. How I share my passion for cooking is a package of curated uniqueness. Not everyone will be into it, and that’s okay. I am here for those who are. In the words of Dr. Seuss, once more, “Those who mind, don’t matter. And those who matter, don’t mind.”

Start Your Day With a Morning Routine

Once our bodies have had time to lay horizontally for eight hours without any disturbances or activities, we are energized to conquer all sorts of shit! If yoga is your thing or perhaps a 20-minute meditation pulls you in before your morning coffee, go with it!

For me, I like to journal and empty my mind before I get my day started. To get more ideas on how to design your morning routine, check out this blog post.

Find Your Purpose and Pursue It With Vigor

I have to say this first: no matter where you are in your life journey, there’s always time to change your direction or path. And the journey is half the fun in looking for that new destination. Although there’s no finish line to cross, there’s beauty in trying new things and doing so with vigor, my friend.

Don’t be afraid of failure – it’s how we learn and how we can share our story with others so they can succeed too.

  • Find your purpose by looking at the things that make you happy.
  • Be proactive about pursuing this goal – take classes, read books, and talk to people who have done what you’re trying to do.
  • Again, I’m saying this louder for the back of the bus, don’t be afraid of failure or rejection – these are just stepping stones on the path to success!
  • Make sure this new pursuit doesn’t interfere with other important aspects of your life such as family and friends. As long as you stay present, you’ll have one hell of a support system as you grow in your purpose.

Create a Mindset of Gratitude

Spending time with friends and family is one of the most important things in our lives. Unless you like solitude, of course. Whatever way you swing, place gratitude where it’s deserved.

For me, I am grateful for my friends and family. I am also grateful for the food I have the privilege to enjoy on a daily basis. Not everyone has the same food available to them or the means to buy it for themselves. For that reason, I incorporate mindfulness into my cooking to show gratitude. I appreciate the food I get to place my hands upon and express who I am in the way I prepare it.

For instance, take my mother’s dish of delicious sopa de conchitas, which is a Mexican pasta shell recipe I enjoyed as a child. Every time I ate a bowl of her soup, I could feel her presence in my heart. Today, I make it for my kiddos, and they feel me in theirs. Same recipe, different hands.

Visit a Musuem or Art Gallary

Being intentional every day can enrich your life more than you could ever imagine. If you love art, take a weekend trip to a local museum or gallery. Experiencing our world’s beauty through someone else’s eyes is such a powerful feeling. I’ve stood in front of famous pieces in the Prado Museum in Madrid for hours, not because I chose to but because their tear-forming messages sucked me in. I walked away feeling such strong emotion and provoking thoughts, only to return again for more the following week before flying back to the States. Just that one trip opened my mind to a new slice of life, learning, and growth.

The reality is, we are all in this life together. Sure, some of us have more money than others and fewer responsibilities, but it’s not about that. We can’t change the cards we were dealt, so let’s focus instead on what really matters: our relationships with ourselves, loved ones, and strangers alike. Let’s be grateful for the food we eat (not just because it tastes good) or see beauty through someone else’s eyes when they point out something special like a bird flying overhead or an elderly couple holding hands at a restaurant. Those beautiful moments are the best!
