Before I share this fab Mardi Gras French Toast recipe, I gotta shout out for a second….I am back home in Texas for a few weeks!
My winter was a bit tough with some personal stuff; health, sanity, and just being off kilter. I needed to slow down for a minute and find my sweet spot again. We all need that break from time to time. I have decided to chalk it up as the last full moon messing with me something fierce.
Now that I have been given some much needed time to exhale and “re-center”, I am going to focus on a bit more self-care and mental health. Does indulging in a little bit of evil here and there count as self-care? In my fucking book, it does!
Mardi Gras is upon us
When I mention “evil”, I mean delectable, sinfully delicious, scrumptious, and (ironically) heavenly. This Mardi Gras French Toast recipe is all of these things. I, personally, have never been a fan of king cake until I had one of the most delicious ones to ever meet my mouth. So, if you have your hands on a great king cake tomorrow, give this recipe a whirl! I even included a vegan recipe in the recipe notes!
In the meantime, I am going to enjoy this beautiful snow fall I have been blessed to see this winter! If you missed my Turmeric Tea recipe last week on my Instagram, check it out! It’ll keep you warm until spring comes around! Now, I am off to KonMari the hell out of my house and life! TOODLES!
P.S. To my Amarillo friends, I know you want to punch me in my face for loving the snow fall but, I haven’t seen it in a very long time so, enjoy my excited mug below!

Mardi Gras French Toast
There can never be enough french toast recipes out there. I thought I would try something new and use up leftover king cake I couldn’t bring myself to throw away. Combined with the colored sugar and creamy sweet goodness of the cake, this french toast was an epic win!
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 2-3 1x
Ingredients
6 slices of king cake
2–3 tbsp unsalted butter
2 eggs
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
juice of 1 small orange
powdered sugar
maple syrup
Instructions
Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add butter to skillet to melt.
Add eggs, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and orange juice into a small mixing bowl. Whisk together. Dunk each slice of king cake into the egg mixture. Cook slices in the non-stick skillet for a few minutes. Flip over to cook the other side. Once toast is golden brown, serve onto plates and top with sprinkled powdered sugar and maple syrup.
Notes
FOR VEGAN RECIPE, use 1/2 cup full fat coconut milk, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/4 cup cornstarch, and 1 tbsp of nutritional yeast flakes for the “egg mixture” and a good vegan bread option. Add cinnamon, vanilla, and orange juice and whisk together.
