About Black Fig

Hi!  I’m Ruthie and welcome to Black Fig Food!

I am so very glad you are here because food is what connects us all, isn’t it? No matter where you live in the world, coming together with one another for a shared meal is one of the greatest joys in life. We all gotta eat so, why not do it with the ones you love!

Black Fig Food is about cooking with love and compassion, savoring the wonderful flavors of seasonal ingredients, and healing ourselves from within by using whole plant foods. It is also about being careful not to restrict ourselves from the foods we enjoy. You will find some recipes that do have processed ingredients such as meat alternatives, oil, and sugar. Super important rule…whether you are a carnivore, omnivore, or herbivore, don’t restrict yourself of food choices that you love. Eat your cabbage AND your cookies!

This blog is for EVERYONE

  • …for those who love to cook and don’t mind spending quality time in the kitchen creating mouth-watering dishes. Whether you are a novice or a pro in the kitchen, you will be able to prepare any of my recipes. And more importantly, you will become a master at incorporating more plant foods into your diet. Well haven’t you heard? Eating more plants is the new cool!
  • …for anyone who may be curious about or transitioning into a plant-based or vegan diet. It can be intimidating to try figuring out what to eat when all you have ever known was an animal protein taking up ⅔ of your plate. Believe me, I know!
  • …for anyone wanting to incorporate more plants into their diet. There are so many ways to create delicious plant-based dishes that will never be bland or boring.
  • …for those who want to learn more about why a plant-based diet is important and worth looking into.
  • …for those who are already vegan and want access to other great recipe and cooking resources.

Disclaimers…if I must…

  • I am not a dietician or nutritionist. My blog posts, recipes, and all other content are my own opinions and, in no way, should be taken as medical advice.
  • I AM however certified in plant-based cooking through Rouxbe Culinary and can show you how to make a five course meal from one soybean burger….kidding. But, I really do have the certificate and know some things 🙂
  • I am not here to make vegans more vegan. Vegans do not need help from me. Chances are, if you already ARE vegan, you have a pretty good handle on how to…
  • I am not here to try and turn anyone vegan. My passion is to help individuals incorporate more plants onto their plates and into their lives. I will only share facts backed by scientific evidence and research that support plant-based and vegan lifestyles. As much or as little as possible, the vegetables, beans, grains, nuts and seeds on our plates can be nutritional and beneficial to us all.

I hope you will stay a while so we can enjoy our journey into a new relationship with food and cooking together! I’ll hold your hand!  I gotchu, boo!!!
